Ashly's Story

Ashly is 11 years old and in the fifth grade. She was four years old when she started coming to the CarePoint. Ely, the facilitator, called her a “little deer” because she was very cheerful. She ran, jumped, climbed on the benches, jumped from the stands, always smiling, and hugged all the children.

Ashly's mother then had four more children in just three and a half years time. And with that, Ashly's life changed. She suddenly became a second mother to all her siblings. Ashly’s mom assigned her to care for her little brothers at a young age. She no longer had time to play because she had to help her brothers with homework and feed them. From then on, her countenance became sad, shy, and quiet, and she was always apart from all the other children.

Ashly comes to the CarePoint daily and always keeps food for her two younger brothers. When Ashly arrives at the CarePoint, she helps take care of the other children, but then - it’s time to play!

Ashly wants to be a teacher when she grows up. Whenever she has the opportunity, she asks Ely to allow her to play and pretend to be the teacher of the other children. In this way, she is able to take a break from her responsibilities and just enjoy being a kid.

At the CarePoint, Ashley is able to connect and relate to the other kids and always tries to encourage them to keep dreaming despite their circumstances.

She is grateful to Children's Cup because it gives her hope to overcome everything.🙏
